I’ve been growing more and more fond of Rihanna’s Rated R and her latest UK single is just amazing. I love the drum beat and it’s a sure fire hit.

So this song came out in 2003. Then that must have been the first year I listened to music. No, not really. But Life For Rent by British singer-songwriter Dido is definitely one of the songs I remember the most from my childhood (Yes, I realize that it’s not that long ago, yet it’s a long time ago for me).

Dido breaked through with her first album No Angel (1999) after some collaboration with Eminem on his track Stan, where Eminem sampled her song Thank You. Four years later, Life For Rent was released and reached succes with songs like this, White Flag and Sand In My Shoes. I recommend all of them.

Last night I saw the new version of A Nightmare on Elm Street on cinema. I still havn’t figured out why, because I get really scared by horror movies and getting home afterwards didn’t quite make it better.

The film is a remake on a movie with the same title and plot that was made in 1984. One day a boy gets brutaly killed while falling asleep on a café, by what seems to be himself. Just before dying, he had told his friend Kris (Katie Cassidy) about his nightmares. Kris tried telling him that dreams are just dreams, but after watching him die she realizes something is wrong. It turns out that she and another three friends are haunted by the same burned man with razors on his fingers in their dreams. The best way to figure out what is going on and to not get killed is therefore to simply stay awake. The girl Nancy (Rooney Mara) takes the lead in solving the problem, and is soon togheter with Quentin (Kyle Gallner) the only one left. Unfortunately, you can’t stay awake forever and the man, Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) is planning his revenge without trouble.

The film was good and had a lot of well-made quickly surprising scenes. You never got to relax and you almost always knew when the burned man was going to show up again. This of course made it a bit too predictable, but for someone like me, who is easily scared, that is just a good thing. I also liked how the film contained a lot of different surroundings. In one way that made it quite straggling, but mostly more alive.

The idea about how the murderer kills his victims is unique enough to make you like it, but the rest is just like every other horror movie with the fear and the uncomfortable feeling of hopelessness now and then turning to hope, excitement or just calm. It ends like it always does, but otherwise it probably wouldn’t be as good.

To be honest I didn’t care much for this song after my first listen, and I put it to the side for some time after. But recently I’ve been getting more and more into it. It reminds me of when Britney was turned into a bitch for the release of her comeback album Blackout, and it still feels rather fresh. In the video Aguilera pushes the limit for how much sexuality, and what parts of sexually are allowed in the public room and I must say that I admire her for doing so. I’m looking forward to hearing her new album Bionic Woman when it’s released later this year.

Katy Perry had a huge breakthrough with her 2008 single and major hit I Kissed A Girl and she now returns two years later with the first single from her sophomore album. The track is called California Gurls and it was penned by Max Martin and Dr. Luke and it was produced by the two as well. Snoop Dogg does a verse on the track as well.

According to the producer of the track Jim Jonsin the hit song Nothin’ On You by B.o.B was originally slated as a Lupe Fiasco track. But since he figured B.o.B needed the single more he convinced the label that he was going to get it instead. What do you think? Good or bad move?
